Dance Collaboration Project

My Reflection: I had a rocky start to this project with my concussion but I ended up loving my final designs. After watching the video, listening to the song, and reading the lyrics I was super drawn to the idea of sky and reaching into it. I felt like all of the dancers were drawn up towards the sky and the lyrics of the song were about being in a safe haven field. I first approached my dancer with this beautiful photo of someone being drawn up into the sky. I also added some other cool images to see what she was drawn to. Watching the video she was more drawn to the business side of the video where they were all in suits, and loved the idea of deconstructing the suit while also having elements of ukrainian embroidery. KC also found a beautiful painting of water with pastels of yellow, blue, and red, which we noted often appear in Ukrainian art. From that I ended up not having much collaboration with KC after this due to my extension but I took everything she said and mixed it with my ideas. I ended up doing mainly 2 different prints for the project, one is a cloudy texture that would probably need to be dyed, and the other is a white with light embroidery on it. I liked the image KC had pulled off the sleepwear with small flowers, so I thought if we are gonna deconstruct the business wear we should deconstruct the embroidery too. I loved the way this turned out because I pulled motifs from Ukrainian embroidery and I think it had a nice touch that fit better than full embroidery would have. Overall I love the mix of business wear and comfortable pieces that I think makes an interesting story of business vs comfort, and the idea of safe haven.
